米国高校交換留学制度は1982年に当時のレーガン大統領が提唱した「国際青少年交流計画」が基盤となり本日まで発展してきました。この制度では世界中の50カ国以上の高校生が参加し、留学を通してお互いの国と国の文化交流を図ることが目的とされています。そのため、米国入国に必要なビザも通常の留学生ビザ（F-1）ではなく、交流訪問者ビザ（J-1）になっており、交換留学生の皆さんは日本を代表する「民間大使」として約１年間の高校生活を現地の高校およびボランティアのホストファミリーの元で過ごすことになるのです。海外での1年間は語学力の習得はもちろんですが、高校生という多感で何事も吸収しやすい一生に一度しかない時期に全く経験したことのない異国で異文化体験をすることがなによりも大きな目的になっています。STSは過去、40年に渡り世界中の高校生の応援をしてきた、世界最大規模の非営利国際学生交換組織です。日本からも米国だけでなく19カ国におよぶ留学先国を設定し、親身な現地スタッフによる独自のサポート体制や現地の安全管理プログラムなどを展開し、大きな信頼を得ています。言葉の通じない外国での生活は苦労することも予想以上に多いはずです。しかし、1年間を乗り切って帰ってきたときにはきっと、何事にもかえ難い経験が出来ているはずです。ぜひ、このチャンスを逃さずあなたの人生のステップアップに役立ててください！

Welcome to the STS Foundation Exchange Program!
As Executive Program Director of STS Foundation USA, I welcome all of you!
Your exchange year in the United States will be the opportunity of a lifetime.
Our mission at STS Foundation is to offer international students the chance to share a high school year with an American host family and attend an American high school.
STSF USA has been placing students from around the world in American families for over fifteen years.
Students from Europe, South America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Thailand, and China have enjoyed living all over the United States, in cities and small towns, and learning our culture and language.
As an STS student, you will come into contact with students from many nationalities that share your goals during your stay in America.
As a not-for-profit organization, STS Foundation maintain low administrative and travel costs.
We believe that all qualified students should be able to afford to participate in our program.
Our dedicated staff is committed to supporting our students during their exchange experience.
We are small enough to provide the personal touch that makes the difference.
Regional Coordinators train and supervise local Area Representatives who will work closely with each Japanese student, their host family and their high school.
Our field staff offers their time because they are committed to our students and believe in the power of the exchange experience in promoting global understanding.
